Thobes
A Timeless Garment
A thobe, also known as a thawb or dishdasha, is a long, loose-fitting garment traditionally worn by men in many Middle Eastern and South Asian countries. It is typically made from lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, making it comfortable in warm climates.
Thobes come in various styles, colors, and patterns, reflecting the cultural diversity of the regions where they are worn. Some thobes have intricate embroidery or beadwork, while others are plain and simple. The length of the thobe can vary, but it generally extends to the ankles.
Thobes are often worn with a keffiyeh or ghutra (a headscarf) and an agal (a cord that holds the keffiyeh in place). In some cultures, thobes are worn with sandals or slippers, while in others, they are paired with socks and closed-toe shoes.
Thobes are not only a practical garment but also a symbol of cultural identity and religious affiliation. They are often associated with Islamic culture and are worn by men of all ages, from young boys to elderly men.
